Cylinder Head Covers

Cylinder Head Covers fit on the top of the cylinder head, and protect the camshafts and valvetrain components from dirt and other contaminants. It also ensures that engine oil is distributed to the relevant engine parts. In many cases it also includes the PCV valve which is an essential component of the lubrication system.

High quality cylinder head covers will have increased longevity, reduce the likeihood of oil leaks and contaminents entering the engine. Furthermore, a quality PCV valve will allow the engine to breathe correctly and reduce emissions while improving engine performance.

Cylinder head covers are designed for a long lifespan, but they can age under certain conditions. While not a service item, they should be inspected regularly for wear or damage and replaced if necessary. If the cover features an integral PCV then it should be replaced if there are any signs of excess crankcase pressure such as burning oil, excessive oil consumption or a rough idle.
